PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the coating suitability and adhesion of the surface of copper foil by cleaning oil or the like on the surface of copper foil in such a manner that the contact angle between the surface of the copper foil and water is controlled to the value equal to or below the specified one with a cleaning soln. composed of chainlike saturated hydrocarbon in which the number of carbon atoms lies in a specified range, and the total content of the components of chainlike saturated hydrocarbon is controlled to the weight % equal to or above the specified one. SOLUTION: The surface of copper foil is cleaned in such a manner that the contact angle between the surface of the copper foil and water is controlled to <=80 degrees with a cleaning soln. composed of 8-20C chainlike saturated hydrocarbon in which the total content of the components is controlled to >=99 wt.%. Rolled copper foil adhered with rolling oil or the like obtd. by melting copper, casting it into a mold, executing hot rolling and thereafter repeating cold rolling and annealing is dipped into a bath of a stirring cleaning soln. for 1 to 10 sec and is cleaned, is sprayed with air at 50 to 150 deg.C for <=60 sec and is dried. The rolled copper foil excellent in water wettability can be obtd. without forming ruggedness by subjecting the surface of the copper foil to roughening plating treatment and mechanical treatment.
