PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double-coated pressure-sensitive adhesive tape which enables adherends bonded therewith to be easily separated in a short time by forming a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer on both sides of a substrate comprising a water- absorbent paper so as to enable water to be absorbed from the side edges of the substrate. SOLUTION: A rubber-based, acrylic-based or polyvinyl ether-based pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is formed on both sides of a substrate comprising a water-absorbent paper having a thickness of 0.05-0.5 mm and a density of 0.15-0.4 g/cm3, thus enabling water to be absorbed from the side edges of the substrate and giving a double-coated pressure-sensitive adhesive tape which exhibits both a good adhesion to the substrate and a suitable penetration of water. This adhesive tape is prepared e.g. by applying a pressure-sensitive adhesive to a release paper, drying the adhesive and transferring it to a water-absorbent paper to form a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer. In order to decrease the time for separating adherends bonded with the adhesive tape, it is preferable to cut fine gooves for allowing water to flow through from the center part to the side edges of the adhesive tape on the surface of an adherend to which the adhesive tape is bonded. Thin paper for home use, such as toilet paper, kitchen paper or facial tissue, is used as the water-absorbent paper.
