PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately determine a substance containing a transition metal such as cobalt or a transition metal ion by using a compound that is expressed by a specific expression as a reagent for measuring the transition metal ion or the substance containing the transition metal ion. SOLUTION: A compound expressed by an expression is used as a measurement reagent for a transition metal ion or a substance containing the transition metal ion. In the expression, R1 and R2 independently indicate a hydrogen atom, sulfone acid substitution C3-4 alkyl group or sulfone acid substitution C3-4 hydroxyalkyl group, while R3 and R4 independently indicate a hydrogen atom, C1-4 alkyl group, C1-4 alkoxy group, or the like. The reagent efficiently generates a coloring matter compound with a small amount of transition metal ion or a substance containing the transition metal ion as a catalyst under the coexistence of hydrogen peroxide, 3-methyl-2-benzothiazorinonehydrazone, or the like. Since the amount of generated coloring matter compound is regularly proportional to the amount of transition metal ion, the amount of transition metal ion can be accurately measured by colorimetry determination.
