PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a car navigation system in which map data can be updated to the latest map data while a route is being guided smoothly by a method wherein the map data is updated to the latest map data at a proper timing. SOLUTION: In this car navigation system, when an expressway-running judgment means 33 detects that a vehicle is running on an expressway, a navigation ECU 30 receives latest map data from a map-database control center 10 and a map database 22 is updated by a map-database update means 32. Thereby, map data is updated while the vehicle is running on the expressway on which a burden on an onboard machine is small, and the map data can be updated while a route is being guided smoothly. |
