PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) semiconducting ceramic, has a specified ratio of trans-granular resistance to total trans-granular and inter-granular resistance. A novel PTC semiconducting ceramic has a R1/(R1 + R2) ratio of 0.35-0.85, where R1 is the trans-granular resistance value, R2 is the inter-granular resistance value and R1 + R2 is the total resistance value. Independent claims are also included for: (i) a semiconducting ceramic element (1) comprising electrodes (5) positioned on the above semiconducting ceramic (3); and (ii) a circuit protection element comprising the above semiconducting ceramic element.
