PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily check the contents of a recorded picture even if the picture is dubbed in a prescribed recording medium by recording a still picture in one or more recording units in accordance with the time of a moving picture and recording information on the moving picture. SOLUTION: The attributes of respective AV contents are recorded in a contents data base 92. Pictures and sound, which correspond to moving picture data files 111-1-1 to 111-1-3 stored in the AV contents 101-1, are recorded. When the moving picture data files 111-1-1 to 111-1-3 are deleted, the AV contents 101-1 is constituted of still picture data files 112-1-1 to 112-1-3 and it does not contain the moving picture data file 111. When the AV content 101 which does not contain the moving picture data file 111 is retrieved and is used, the contents of the recorded picture and sound can be learnt.
