PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To continuously coat grooves formed on a back substrate of a plasma display panel and partitioned via ribs with phosphor paste. SOLUTION: A fabricating apparatus comprises a substantially semi- cylindrical metal plate including a one-dimensional array of a plurality of fine holes 11, each having a pitch of an integral multiple of a pitch of each of grooves 31 partitioned via ribs 2 formed on the surface of a substrate; a roller 30 for sending phosphor paste in close contact with the inner wall side of the plate through the fine holes 11 by rotating force; and a movable portion for allowing a coating head constituted by integrally forming the plate with the roller 30 to be moved. Consequently, the rotating speed of the roller 30 is made variable, thereby controlling the coating thickness of the phosphor paste, to coat the grooves partitioned via the ribs with the phosphor paste in a stripe fashion.
