The present invention refers to a method for controlling the amount of lignin present in cellulose pulp and the amount of chemical compounds added to the pulp during the bleaching step, which comprises subjecting a sample of said pulp taken directly from the charge of pulp in the bleaching line to an Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) analysis, computing the resulting data of phase signal to calculate the lignin content in the pulp and finally determining the amount of chemicals to be added to the pulp in function of the calculated lignin concentration.
