Apparatus to give a cord embroidery, with large embroidery machines, has an angular cord leader (11) at the punch rail (1) which is fitted with alternative punch holders (2). It has a funnel (3) with a feed opening (4) at the leading end, on the movement line of the needle (5), to take the cord (8) and needle with the upper thread (10). The leader holds the funnel at a defined gap from the embroidered fabric (7). The feed for the cord (8) is angled by a guide eyelet (9) directly near the movement line of the needle (5). The cord (8) is led by the feed opening (4) at right angles to the embroidered fabric (7), which has a cross section surface only slightly larger than the cross section of the cord (8) together with the added cross section of the needle (5).
