PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain smooth opening and closing of an engine valve by preventing locking between a link rod and an oscillation cam, when the valve is closed under minimum valve lifting. SOLUTION: This device has a drive shaft, to whose outer periphery a drive cam 15 is fixed, and an oscillation cam 17 slidably attached to the outer periphery of the drive shaft 15, for opening and closing an intake valve 12 via a valve lifter 16. An oscillation fulcrum of a rocker arm 23 is prepared by the rotation of a control cam 33 fixed to a control shaft 32, rocker arm 23 of which transmits torque of the drive cam to the oscillation cam via a link arm 24 and a link rod 25. A lifting amount of the intake valve is thus variably controlled. A first regulation mechanism 40 is arranged on a circumferential direction prescribed position of the control shaft, mechanism 40 of which is composed of a first stopper projection 42 formed on a bearing 14 and a stopper pin 41 regulating excessive rotation of the control shaft co-working with the first stopper projection.
