To reduce the surface roughness of a portion of the internal wall of a centrifugal compressor diffuser 46, in order to reduce aerodynamic drag and improve compressor efficiency, the as-cast (or otherwise roughened) surface 44b is coated with a heat-resistant paint 48. The paint may be a powder paint including an epoxy compound, an acrylic compound, an alkyd compound, or a silicone compound. The centrifugal compressor may form part of a turbocharger (figure 1) or a gas turbine engine (figure 5). |
