PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recording medium that a spare region can be widened in accordance with frequency of occurrence of defective sectors. SOLUTION: An information recording medium is provided with a first spare region 102 including a spare sector to be substituted for a defective sector, a defect control information region 101 controlling substitution of a spare sector for a defective sector, and a volume space 100a in which user data can be recorded. The volume space 100a is constituted so that a second spare region 108 including a spare sector to be substituted for a defective sector can be additionally arranged. Position information indicating a position of the second spare region 108 is recorded in the defect control information region 101.
