CORROSION DETECTOR FOR OVERHEAD BARE WIRE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a corrosion detector for detecting corrosion of an overhead bare wire easily and surely without causing corrosion due to contact of different kinds of metal. SOLUTION: A shape memory alloy indicator 3 curved arcuately is fitted over an overhead bare wire 1 under indirect contact state through a nonmetallic material (tubular member 5c). Central part of the indicator 3 is secured to the tubular member 5c of a nonmetallic fixture 5 by means of a screw 7. Upon occurrence of abnormal heating due to increase in the electric resistance caused by corrosion of the overhead bare wire 1, the indicator 3 recoveres the original shape as shown by dash and dots lines. Since released state of the indicator 3 can be recognized at a glance, abnormal heating of the overhead bare wire 1 can be visually detected directly thus detecting corrosion. Contact of different kinds of metal does not take place because a nonmetallic material is present between the shape memory alloy indicator 3 and the overhead bare wire 1 and corrosion of the overhead bare wire 1 is not accelerated by the indicator 3.
