According to the invention, to avoid electric fields in a building when electrical consumers (load 6) are not switched on, said consumers are connected to the mains only when a connected load (6) is detected. To this end a monitoring module (4) sends a pilot signal to the power supply cable (28) connected to the load (6). When said load (6) is connected an optoelectronic switch (12) is opened so that an optical signal transmitted by an optical mains connector (2) via an optical waveguide is able to return to said mains connector (2). As a result the optical mains connector (2) closes a switching contact (24) so that an electric contact (40, 42, 28) is established between the mains cable (30) and the load (6). After the load (6) has been disconnected and detected as such the electric contact is interrupted by the breaking of the switching contact (24) of the mains connector (2). Virtually error-free operations are made possible by the optical load on signal. |
