PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator free from the self-discharge even at a high temperature, superior in the capacity retainability, and simultaneously, remarkably reducing the lowering of reliability of the battery caused by the short circuit. SOLUTION: In a separator for alkaline battery including a sheet-like non- woven fabric (A) prepared by sulfonating the fiber composed of a polyolefin resin, the limiting viscosity of the polyolefin resin is 0.2-1.0 [dl/g]. A diameter of the fiber composed of the polyolefin resin forming the sheet-like non-woven fabric (A) is 1-10μm.
