PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To project pattern light without using any flash light, reduce the influence of the move of an image due to the move of a subject, and improve the accuracy in three-dimensional information input by equipping this camera with a projection means that uses a light-emitting diode as a light source for projecting the pattern light. SOLUTION: A light-emitting diode is used as a projection means for projecting pattern light to an image pickup region. The switching of the presence or absence of a pattern by the emission and non-emission of the light-emitting diode can be made faster than the mechanical switching of a mask pattern. Three-dimensional information can be obtained from a subject image with the pattern of the light-emitting diode and the subject image of only steady light without using any flash light source. In a light-emitting diode array 560, a mask 550 for forming a fringe pattern is arranged in front of the light-emitting diode array 560 so that the period coincides with that of a row of emission elements of R, G, and B. Light from each emission element is transmitted through the mask 550 and is projected from a pattern projection window 553.
