The method involves using sections of a gradient pulse sequence to actively attenuate acoustic noise-related resonances of a gradient coil system excited by other sections. A gradient pulse sequence may be interrupted after the end of a certain pattern of pulses for odd positive multiples of half the reciprocal of the excited dominant resonant frequency of the gradient coil system, before the pattern of pulses is resumed.
