PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a controlling agent for of trees and to provide a method for controlling trees capable of readily and surely washing trees by utilizing properties of inducing a hydrophilic phenomenon and oxidizingly degrading organic substances by photoexcitation of a photocatalytic substance. SOLUTION: This controlling agent for trees is composed of an aqueous solution containing a photocatalytic substance and is sprayed on the surfaces of the trees to be stuck therewith. The photocatalytic substance induces a hydrophilic phenomenon on the surfaces of the trees due to its photoexcitation and oxidizingly degrades polluted materials attached on the surface of the trees to be removed. The photocatalytic substance is at least one kind of titanium oxide and zinc oxide and their mixtures. An aqueous solution of a disinfectant can be used as the aqueous solution of the photocatalytic substance.
