PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain high quality image in which jitter is suppressed by delaying the output timing of a head pulse to a heating element by a specified time behind the time for starting or ending output of a pulse from an encoder thereby compensating for the temporal error occurring in the encoder. SOLUTION: The thermal printer comprises a section 15 for measuring the duty ratio between the output time of a pulse signal from an encoder 14 and the non-output time of the pulse signal, a section for operating the output correction time of an OFF time head pulse from the duty ratio measured at the measuring section 15, and a control section delivering the OFF time head pulse to a heating element upon ending output of the pulse signal with a time lag equal to the output correction time.
