PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce the subject reinforcing material having a high modulus of elasticity and excellent in swelling resistance and useful for an automotive hydraulic brake hose, or the like, by applying a resorcinol-formalin latex treating liquid to polyvinyl alcohol-based fibers and then conducting a stretch treatment under specific temperature conditions. SOLUTION: A resorcinol-formalin latex treating liquid is applied to polyvinyl alcohol-based fibers, preferably a filament yarn obtained preferably by a dry spinning method and the resultant filament yarn is then subjected to a stretch treatment of >=1% under temperature conditions of >=200 deg.C to produce the objective reinforcing material. The modulus of elasticity of the polyvinyl alcohol- based filament yarn used is preferably >=100 g/d, especially preferably 150-300 g/d and the strength thereof is preferably >=7 g/d, especially preferably >=8 g/d. The single filament fineness is preferably 1-20 denier and the total denier is preferably 1,000-1,800 denier. |
