PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a structure wherein aligning of a printing position with respect to a reciprocating scanning interval of a print head and printing positions with respect to a plurality of print heads in a printer are automatically executed without complicating the structure of the printer and increasing the manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: An optical sensor 30 for measuring a pattern formed for aligning a printing position is shared among detection of a home position in the printing and detection of an end of a print medium. As the single optical sensor is adequately controlled corresponding to a purpose of the use, it is possible to use an optimum characteristic thereof in each using mode. As a result, it is possible to eliminate an additional sensor used only for aligning the printing position and to suppress increasing of the manufacturing cost of the printer which may be increased thereby. |
