PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the time and cost for treating hydrogen peroxide contained in wastewater by adding an alkaline compound to the wastewater to adjust it to an alkaline pH, adding a copper salt to the wastewater to form flocks of a copper compound and irradiating the wastewater with ultraviolet rays specified in wavelength. SOLUTION: Wastewater containing hydrogen peroxide is caused to flow into a hydrogen peroxide-containing wastewater flow-in tank 5 and is adjusted to an alkaline pH with an alkaline compound. Then, a copper salt in a copper salt addition tank 6 is added to the wastewater by using a copper salt addition pump 7 and is reacted with hydrogen peroxide to form flocks of the formula: CuxOyHz. The wastewater is then circulated between an ultraviolet reaction apparatus 1 and the wastwater flow-in vessel 5 by using a liquid transfer pump 10. An ultraviolet lamp 3 is turned on with an electric source 2, and light of 200-900 mm is radiated to photodecompose hydrogen peroxide in the waste. After the decomposition, the electric source 2 is turned off and the liquid transfer pump 10 is stopped. The waste water is then left standing, thus being subjected to solid-liquid separation into treated water and CuxOyHz.
