PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling defrosting of a refrigerator are provided to minimize the amount of vapor generated when defrosted water is collided with a sheath heater. CONSTITUTION: A refrigerator including a micro computer, a compressor, a first defrosting heater to a third defrosting heater, and a first switching element and a second switching element, wherein a method for controlling defrosting of a refrigerator includes the steps of determining whether the certain time is passed after driving the compressor at the micro computer and if the certain time is passed, driving the first defrosting heater to the third defrosting heater during a first set time by simultaneously turning on the first switching element and the second switching element(S1-S4); controlling the driving of the third defrosting heater at the certain duty ratio according to a control signal of the micro computer during a second set time after the first set time has passed(S5-S7); and stopping the driving of the third defrosting heater during a third set time after the second set time has passed(S8-S10).
