PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet imaging apparatus having print speed enhanced furthermore. SOLUTION: To eject ink from a print head by reciprocating a carriage for holding an ink jet print head in parallel with the recording face of a recordigg sheet. Moving speed of the carriage is detected during print operation and the drive waveform for ejecting ink is varied depending on the detected moving speed of the carriage. According to the arrangement, image quality does not deteriorate even during acceleration or deceleration.
