PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heater having an enhanced safety by controlling the operation on detection of a moving object such as a child. SOLUTION: A heater 1 has a burner 3 of a heat source, a gas flow regulating valve 19 controlling the amount of supply of combustion gas to the burner 3 and a fan 5 blowing the combusted gas of high temperature into a room. Moreover, it is equipped with a sensor which comprises a receiver 23 attached to the main body of the heater and a transmitter 25 fittable to a moving object 100 and detects a distance between the heater 1 and the moving object 100, and the sensor detects the moving object such as a person or an animal coming near to a radiating part of the main body of the heater. When the sensor detects the approach of the moving object 100, a controller 21 issues a command to lower the amount of radiation of the heat source, so as to lower the quantity of heat that the moving object such as a child receives. As a result, a burn or the like to be caused by hot air or the main body of the heater can be prevented.
