PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the uniformity and the liquid life of a liquid by preparing a polyvinyl alcohol composition which is used for an application liquid to form the layer of a recording material by containing a polyvinyl alcohol of which the average saponification degree is a specified value, and a phenolic compound. SOLUTION: In order to improve the chemical resistance of a recording material, for the protective layer of the recording material, a polyvinyl alcohol of which the crystallinity is high is normally used, and when such a polyvinyl alcohol is dissolved with water, in order to stably prepare a uniform solution, this polyvinyl alcohol composition is prepared by containing a polyvinyl alcohol of which the average saponification degree is 75-94%, and a phenolic compound. Also, as a dissolution assisting agent for the phenolic compound, an organic solvent of which the solubility with water is 10 wt.% or higher, and of which the solubility with the phenolic compound is 0.5% or higher is preferably contained. By this constitution, the stability of this composition or an application liquid containing the composition is improved. |
