PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder and recording method in which color ink in an ink cartridge is prevented from being wasted. SOLUTION: An ink jet recorder 20 comprising a recording head 28 for ejecting an ink drop, a black ink cartridge, and a color ink cartridge 70 is further provided with means 210 for detecting ink end of a plurality of colors of ink, and means 40 for controlling the black ink cartridge and the color ink cartridge. The plurality of colors of ink contained in the color ink cartridge 70 comprises at least first and second groups and the control means 40 controls the operation such that when ink end of color ink in any one of the groups is detected, recording is carried out principally with color ink of the other group. |
