PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a ground fault etc., caused by the deterioration in insulation performance of surrounding component members by lowering the temperature of a high-temperature gas when the arc-extinguishing gas heated by arc heating is exhausted from the side of a movable contact through a piston rod, in the case of a gas-blast circuit breaker. SOLUTION: In this gas-blast circuit breaker, cooling blades 12 are disposed between a piston rod 5 and a heat exhausting tube 10 in order to cool down a high-temperature gas by the time the high-temperature gas blown out from an exhaust port 9 of the piston rod 5 is exhausted from holes 11 in the heat exhausting tube 10 so disposed as to surround the piston rod 5. By disposing the cooling blades 12, the high-temperature gas blown out from the exhaust port 9 hits against the cooling blades 12, thereby accelerating the agitation thereof with ambient lower-temperature gases, and the temperature of gases exhausted from the holes 11 can be rapidly cooled down.
