<p>The present invention provides a device and method for a receiver that iteratively detects and decodes differentially modulated symbols at a relatively lower error rate. The method and device of the present invention calculates extrinsic and a priori information and uses such information to more accurately detect and decode information carried by the symbols. First, a block of samples representing at least one symbol is received. Reliability information (or soft outputs) is calculated from the received at least one block of samples and any available a priori information. Extrinsic information and updated a priori information are obtained from the calculated reliability information and such a priori information and extrinsic information are iteratively used to recalculate the reliability information. The iteratively calculated reliability information is ultimately used to decode information carried by the at least one block of samples. <IMAGE></p> |
