Torsional vibration monitoring system

A system for monitoring a torsional vibration of a rotating shaft in a vehicle drivetrain utilizes detected changes in a rotational speed of a shaft to determine when torsional vibrations occur. The system includes a sensor device for detecting the speed of rotation of a gear that is rotating with one of the drivetrain shafts. An electronic controller communicates with the sensor device to gather information on the speed of rotation of the gear rotating with the shaft. The electronic controller compares the information with a preselected threshold value. If the preselected threshold value has been exceeded, the electronic controller provides an output, which preferably notifies the driver of the excessive torsional vibration. <IMAGE>
