PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a paper sheet P and a detecting lever of a paper position detecting sensor from being damaged in jam processing. SOLUTION: A paper position detecting sensor 72, having a detecting lever 721 projecting to inside a carrier passage 32, is provided in one guide face 321 side forming a carrier passage 32, and the other guide surface 322 is attached to an opening/closing external cover 45. A paper abutting member 722 prevented from interlocked with the opening/closing operation of the external cover 45 is arranged, in such a state as to sandwich the width-direction both sides of the detecting lever 72 from the guide surface 322 side. When the external cover 45 is opened, the constitution can fasten the paper P at a position which pushes down the detecting lever 721 by supported by the paper abutment member 722, so that when the paper P is pulled out from the device, the paper will not be caught by the detecting lever 721.
