PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which a blade can abut uniformly against a developer carrying roller while keeping a substantially constant distance between the developer carrying roller and the individual electrodes. SOLUTION: A thin developer layer is formed on a sleeve 34 made of a soft material by abutting a blade 36 against the sleeve and the thin layer is transferred temporarily to a roller 38 made of a hard material. A voltage is then applied to individual electrodes 56 based on an image signal and the strength of a field for urging a developer 20 from the hard roller 38 in the direction passing through a through hole 54 and a barrier wall 46 is varied. Consequently, the developer 20 held at the hard roller part facing the through hole 54 is flown through the through hole 54 to adhere to a recording medium 48 disposed oppositely to the hard roller 38 while holding the barrier wall 46 between them. |
