PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for detecting an object or a passenger in a vehicle are provided to obtain sufficient information on an object of a passenger in a dangerous area for protecting the passenger even though the power supply element is in a bad condition. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for detecting an object or a passenger in a vehicle includes a sensor(1), a power supply element(2), and a control unit(3) for controlling the sensor, wherein if a sufficient power supply is sensed by the control unit, the control unit is in a normal mode(32) for the sensor to consume a first average power, while if an insufficient power supply is sensed by the control unit, the control unit is in an urgent mode(33) for the sensor to consume a second average power smaller than the first average power, wherein the control unit monitors a supply voltage(U) of the power supply element so that the urgent mode of the control unit is activated as soon as the supply voltage is decreased below a limitation value(G)
