Input bit-streams (1 - 4), divided into recurring frames and each frame into time slots, entering switch, are each received by medium access units (21 - 24) for writing to frame buffer stores having capacity to store three sequential frames. Time slot data is selected from buffers by units (45 - 48) according to mapping tables (55 - 58) defining multiplexed output bit-streams (5 - 8). Mapping table are automatically updated. An independent claim includes method for data switching. Cascade input provided for incorporating several switches into larger switch. |
