An expansion valve capable of adjusting an opening characteristic according to the environmental load conditions with a simple structure based on a mechanical expansion valve, wherein a support body which supports a coiled spring (8) on the bottom part of the mechanical expansion valve from the underside is formed of an adjustement nut (11) vertically moving at the bottom part of a value body (1) through a screw mechanism, the expansion valve (25) capable of steppingly varying the opening of the disc (5) by driving the adjustement nut (11) by a stepping motor (12) so as to adjust an energizing force exerted to the coiled spring (8), and an environmental load detection means (29) having an atmospheric temperature sensor (29k) is provided so that the energizing force to the coiled spring (8) can be adjusted according to the load conditions detected by the environmental load detection means (29).
