COMPACTOR ASSEMBLY

An apparatus (10) is disclosed for compacting and stabilising the density of a flow of fibrous material of the tobacco processing industry from one end of the first foraminous belt conveyor (12) to a wrapping mechanism at the other end. The first conveyor (12) carries a fibrous material filler stream (28) with the aid of suction. A further foraminous conveyor (36) is provided substantially parallel and below the first conveyor (12) which compresses the fibrous material filler (28) therebetween. Both conveyors (12, 36) are controlled, in use, to run at different speeds to reduce voids in compressed fibrous material filler (28) to allow stabilisation of the density thereof.
