PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for preparing in a high yield a silicon-containing polymer compound having a repetitive structural component of the formula:≡Si-CH=CH-. SOLUTION: In the preparation process of a silicon-containing polymer, one or two or more monomers having the structure of the formula (wherein R is an aryl group, heteroaryl group or cycloalkyl group; R1-R4 are each hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; a and c are each an integer of 0 or larger; and b is 0 or 1) are polymerized in the presence of a ruthenium-containing compound which either possesses a Ru-H bond or Ru-Si bond or forms a Ru-H bond or Ru-Si bond in the reaction system.
