PURPOSE: A row decoder of hierarchical word-line structure is provided to reduce a gap between word-lines, to prevent a bridging between the word-lines, and to sustain electric potential of sub word-lines. CONSTITUTION: The row decoder includes an inverter(IV3), plural sub word-line drivers(16-Kn) and a sub word-line clearing part(50). The inverter(IV3) inverts an output signal from a main row decoder(10). According to the output signal from the inverter(IV3) and word-line boosting signals(px+1(0)-px+N(3)), the sub word-line drivers(16-Kn) boost up electric potential of sub word-lines(SWL1(0)-SWLN(3)) parallel connected to the output line of the inverter(IV3). The sub word-line clearing part(50) controls operation of sub word-line drivers to clear sub word-lines which are not selected. Thereby, the gap between word-lines can be reduced, the bridging between the word-lines can be prevented, and the electric potential of the sub word-lines(SWL1(0)-SWLN(3)) can be sustained.
