PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acoustically check whether or not there are any damage on a hard disk (especially a dent in a CSS area) without opening the hard disk by picking up vibration that is to be generated when the hard disk collides with the damage on a disk among vibration propagating on a housing of the hard disk. SOLUTION: A hard disk test apparatus 20 allow a hard disk 2, that is to be tested, to be mounted onto a mounting section 21, and further connects a power supply connector 23 and an interface connector 24 to respective corresponding connectors of the hard disk 2. A start SW 5a is then used to rotate a disk of the hard disk 2. The driving of the disk is thereafter stopped, so that the disk keeps rotating through its inertia until finally being stopped. During the above sequence, a contacting microphone 1 picks up vibration propagating on a housing of the hard disk 2. The thus obtained vibration is amplified by the test apparatus 20 to be output as an acoustic signal from a loudspeaker 4. Thus, a damage (a dent) in a CSS area of the hard disk 2 can be detected.
