A self-disinfecting drain trap system designed to automatically clean and disinfect drain traps in drainage channels. Cleaning and disinfection occur automatically during normal usage without interrupting the functions of the drainage trap. The new drain trap works according to a novel combination of electromechanical oscillation, preferably ultrasound, heating of the interio r of the drain trap and sealing liquid, and prevention of fouling on the inner wall by means of an effective antifouling antimicrobial coating. The risk of aftergrowth on sanitary equipment, fittings and in ambient air due to micro- organisms from drainage channels is thus effectively combated.
