PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium which rapidly absorbs ink with superb ink absorbability and shows high image density with clear color tone, and high gradient, and free from color tinge variation due to density, and suppresses the generation of a beading, and having both surface scratch resistance and transparency. SOLUTION: This recording medium has a porous lower layer 202 containing an alumina hydrate of a boehmite structure, and a porous upper layer 203 containing silica sequentially formed. In this case, the porous upper layer 203 is composed mainly of spherical silica particles 204 mostly with 1-100 nm particle size, agglomerates containing a binder and voids 206. The voids 206 are present chiefly between the agglomerates and are not present within the agglomerates. |
