PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an upper stopper which can easily be attached or detached, does not affect fishing operations, and can prevent its loss when not used. SOLUTION: This upper stopper 1 is obtained by integrally forming a bag-like synthetic resin cover portion 1a, a clip-like attaching portion 1b disposed on the back surface of the cover portion 1a, a tongue-like, U-shaped band-attaching portion 1c, a platform portion 1d disposed on the back surface of the band- attaching portion 1c, and an engaging pipe 1e. A collision portion 1f for colliding with the butt rod 3 of the fishing rod 2 is formed in the portion for connecting the cover portion 1a to the band-attaching portion 1c. A square hole 1g long in the axial direction is formed in the band-attaching portion 1c. A tightening band 4 is attached to the band-attaching portion 1c. An outward-directed, plate- like circular portion 1h is formed at the tip of the clip-like attaching portion 1b.
