PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain reduction of the size and thickness and improvement of resolution at low cost without prolonging operating time. SOLUTION: On a first side around a display screen 100, a plurality of polarizers PLX1-PLXm and PLY1-PLYn are arranged for passing radiated light after changing it into linearly polarized light at mutually different polarization angles. On a second side opposite to the first side around the display screen, plural analyzers ODX1-ODXm and ODY1-ODYn are arranged for detecting and passing light from the correspondent polarizers. Light emitting elements LEX1-LEXm and LEY1-LEYn which simultaneously emit light for irradiating these polarizers are provided correspondently and proximately with these respective polarizers. Photodetectors PTX1-PTXm and PTY1-PTYn for receiving the light of correspondent analyzers and converting it to electric signals are provided correspondently and proximately with these respective analyzers. A position designated by a tip 200 of a finger is detected by the output signals of these photodetectors.
