PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a skin cosmetic which has excellent anti-inflammatory effect and an excellent beautifully whitening effect, has high stability and skin safety, and can express an excellent use touch by adding a specific dihydroxyphenyl compound as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This skin cosmetic contains a dihydroxyphenyl compound of formula I and/or a dihydroxyphenyl compound of formula II as active ingredients. The compound of formula I is easily obtained, for example, by cleaving the methyl ether group of zingherone contained in ginger with boron tribromide and hydroiodic acid. The compound of formula II can also be obtained by reducing the zingherone with sodium borohydride in the same manner as above. The compounds are preferably added in an amount of 0.01-5.0 wt.% based on the total amount of the skin cosmetic. Thereby, the excellent skin cosmetic which can express an inhibitory effect on the inflammation and melanization of skin due to ultraviolet light, and the quick hypochromic effect on melanized skin and has high skin safety, and the like, is provided.
