An improved hammermill hammer (10) is provided wherein the hammer body (12) has an interlocking slot (18), to receive one of a pair of retaining rods (38), and a rod hole (16) through which a second rod (38) is interfitted to lock the hammer (10) securely to the hammermill rotor.
