PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a weft holder that can inexpensively realize the holding and release of the weft synchronized with the weft-inserting motion, has a simple structure and can meet the speeding-up of the weaving machine. SOLUTION: The objective weft holder is provided with the magnet on the driving side that is mounted to the reed or its supporting or driving member, the weft yarn holder 7 comprising a pair of members 5, 6 of which at least one is the opening member 6 disposed at the weft pass on the flying or beating, and the magnet 9 on the driven side in order to open or close the opening and closing members. The magnet 9 on the driven side is disposed in the action range of the magnetic force lines in a partial area of the locus of the magnet on the driving side that moves synchronously with motion of the beating. The timing of the weft folding or the weft release can be set by arranging the magnet on the driven side at which position on the locus of the magnet 9 on the driving side, as it keeps its polarity to which direction.
