PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance a throughput and to form an image on the various kinds of materials to be transferred by providing an image forming device with a transfer body selectively performing two roles according to the kind of the material to be transferred. SOLUTION: When the material to be transferred is recognized to be a general plain paper, the material to be transferred 119 supplied from the B side of a cassette 117 is carried on the first transfer body 113 so that the transfer body 113 performs the role of the carrier of the material to be transferred. Then, the images developed by a developing device 112 are successively transferred on the carried material 119 so that the images of (m), (c), (y) and (k) are formed in multiple wise. When the material to be transferred is judged to be a special paper, the first transfer body 113 becomes an intermediate transfer body. Then, the images developed by the developing device 112 are successively transferred on the transfer body 113 being as the intermediate transfer body. Synchronously with the transfer action of a final color, the material 119 is fed from the A side of the cassette 117 in a direction (a) by a second transfer body 114. Then, full color images on the transfer body 113 are transferred on the material 119 in a lump at a transfer nip part E.
