PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an excellent image without transfer defect by primarily transferring the toner image on the first image carrier to an intermediate transfer body while reducing the transfer current flow deficit, by primary charging means of contact system, and secondarily transferring the toner image being primarily transferred on recording material while reducing the secondary transfer current flow deficit, by the secondary charging means of the contact system, in the case of the image forming on the recording material in the small size. SOLUTION: Relating to this image forming device, a non-paper passing part of an intermediate transfer belt 230 is held between a grounded driven roller 220 and the charging roller 260, and electric charges in same polarity as the electric charge fed at the primary transfer time is applied to the rear side of the non-paper passing part of the belt by application of the negative voltage from power source E1. Moreover, non-paper passing part of the belt after primary transfer is hold by the grounded driving roller 210 and the charging roller 270 for the belt 230, and the electric charges in polarity opposite to the electric charge being fed at the secondary transfer time is applied to the rear side of the non-paper passing part, by the application of positive voltage from the power source E2.
