A method for producing a desulfurizing agent characterized in that it comprises admixing a mixed aqueous solution containing a copper compound and a zinc compound with an alkaline aqueous solution to thereby form a precipitat e, calcining the resultant precipitate, providing a molding of a copper oxide- zinc oxide mixture from the resultant calcined product, incorporating iron o r nickel into the molding through impregnation, again calcining the product th us obtained and reducing the resultant calcined oxide with hydrogen, a method f or desulfurizing a hydrocarbon stock using the desulfurizing agent.
