The handle for a motor vehicle door has a pivoted handle lever (26) and a cylinder lock (12). The lock cylinder can be accessed by a key from the exterior. The handle lever (26) has a cap (36) for protecting the lock. When in the normal position, the cap closes off at least the key slot of the lock. The cap can be attached to the handle by a mortice and tenon coupling.
